Shanghai Pharmaceutical (Group), China's largest pharmaceutical company, has signed an agreement with the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality to promote deep integration between industry, academia and clinical research. Both parties will jointly invest and set up a research fund for the pharmaceutical group's new drug research and development, quality improvement, as well as development of new clinical applications for existing drugs. With its comprehensive coverage, SPG is leading Shanghai's latest biopharmaceutical push (PharmAsia News, Aug. 10, 2009). The company has identified 10 key products for redevelopment and plans to invest RMB 1.15 billion in new drug R&D and new technology platforms over the next three years.
