Laboratory Automation. Medical Automation Systems has developed a software system that creates an electronic link--via network or modem--between standard benchtop instruments placed near patients and a hospital's central laboratory. A blood sample is placed in the analyzer by a nurse and the results are sent electronically to the hospital lab and the hospital information systems (including the billing systems), and back to the remote location.
