The $1,000 genome is closer to a $1,130 genome when computing costs are included, according to Edico Genome Inc. The start-up thinks it has a solution to the problem, in the form of its DRAGEN chip, which has been optimized to run genome analysis at a high rate of efficiency; instead of 24 hours, a single chip can analyze genome data in about 20 minutes.
