Executive Summary
DG SANCO, the European Commission's Health and Consumers Directorate General, is being restructured partly in an attempt to make the department better able to help facilitate the introduction of innovative solutions in the area of health. The changes, which involve the creation of a new directorate and a new advisory post on innovation reporting directly to the head of DG SANCO, will result in public health issues being managed separately from health systems and products1,2.
