Companies from China single-handedly sponsored a total of eight Phase III clinical studies that included US sites in 2023 compared to six in 2022 - but the figure was still below the record of 11 in 2021.

Private Company Edition: Quarter-over-quarter increases in venture capital have been bolstered by fewer but larger rounds, like the recent $245m series A for Aiolos. Also, OrbiMed raised $4.3bn across three new VC funds, Rampart completed an $85m series A and Atom Bioscience raised an $83m series D. 

Private Company Edition: NVCA and Pitchbook data show pharma and biotech companies raised $37.8bn in venture capital in 2021, up 41% from the record $26.8bn total in 2020. Recent mega-rounds include $190m for Maze and $200m for Alumis, and Sound Bioventures raised a €110m fund.

Jiangsu Yahong and 11 Chinese biotechs raised a combined $1.1bn via public listings and VC/PE deals in the run-up to and first week of the new year.
